The Notorious Meaning of Life

In the world we live in people always questioned what is meaning of life, who gives us the meaning or where do we find our meaning in life. Hey, if you are a religious person and you think that God gives you the meaning of life, CONGRATS, you are already ahead of me because you find where your meaning is coming from and who gives it to you. But there are other people, I call them “braves” still looking for their answers when the life still goes on. You probably wondering why I call them “braves”, well it’s obvious, they are brave enough to indulge into that dilemma and starts questioning about their life which is same as getting into an endless tornado.

First, those who find the meaning of life in deities (gods) tend to tie themselves to the path they believe their god has paved for them. But do they truly call that the meaning of life? The meaning of life should be defined by one’s own goals and purposes, not dictated by an external force. I don’t believe there is a third party setting our goals for us. To create meaning in your life, you must have a solid plan for what you want to achieve and how you intend to pursue it. If we surrender our sense of purpose to an external being, we may risk living passively. It is almost same as getting order from your boss, teacher or parents there is no space for you to using your own choices or shaping your own destiny. True meaning comes from the choices we make, the ambitions we cultivate or how Albert Camus presents, struggle from his writing “Myth of Sisyphus” as how struggle is an inherent part of human existence and encourages embracing it despite it is absurdity. Without that absurdity or personal ownership of our goals, can we truly say we are living, or are we merely existing?

On the other hand, there are those who take the search for the meaning of life to extremes, which can lead to serious mental issues. I firmly believe that living in extremes is harmful to human existence. Devoting one’s life entirely to the pursuit of meaning can result in anxiety, pulling a person away from the reality of life and leaving them lost in an endless cycle of overthinking. Similarly, the extreme of blind faith or clinging too tightly to deities, can prohibits independent judgment and imagination. In such cases, individuals risk detaching from life itself, focusing entirely on the otherworld while ignoring the present. In both cases, losing balance in search of meaning can strip individuals their ability to truly experience the life itself.

“Balance” is what we all need to maintain our life or not living in the extremes. I believe that pursuing too much is destructive, sometimes we should only live the moment itself. You don’t pursue meaning of life, let life comes to you with the meaning on its hand. The beauty of living in moment lies in its unpredictability, and forcing meaning often leads to frustration and disappointment. Instead of constantly seeking answers, we should allow experiences, relationships, and personal growth to shape our understanding. Life doesn’t always go the way we plan, and forcing strict definitions on it can stop us from truly enjoying it. Meaning isn’t something you chase endlessly, it’s something that comes through moments of joy, and discovery. Sometimes, you don’t find meaning by searching for it but by just being present in the moment.

“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That’s why it’s called the present”
